According to Oleksandr Koval, a sapper with the 49th separate brigade, drones like the "Vampire" hexacopter have become essential tools for remote mining. These drones are equipped with servo-driven release mechanisms that allow operators to drop specialized mines at specific coordinates from altitudes of 50 to 100 meters. This method significantly enhances the safety of personnel by removing the need for crews to approach the front lines, allowing them to conduct operations under the cover of darkness.

A key technological advancement in this field is the use of mines equipped with magnetic sensors, which are highly sensitive to both heavy armored vehicles and smaller, two-wheeled transport. These modern engineering munitions are designed to be effective and precise, often featuring self-liquidation timers—ranging from 30 to 60 days—to ensure that unexploded ordnance does not pose a long-term threat to civilians or friendly forces after the territory is liberated. These mines are primarily deployed to disrupt enemy logistics and supply routes rather than being scattered indiscriminately.

Ukraine has achieved a high level of self-sufficiency in the production of these specialized munitions, relying on domestic technology to scale up operations. While both sides utilize remote mining, Ukrainian forces employ reconnaissance drones (such as Mavics) to identify and destroy enemy-placed explosives, ensuring safe passage for their own equipment and personnel. Unlike the indiscriminate use of anti-personnel mines by Russian forces, which often violate international conventions, Ukrainian operations focus on anti-tank and anti-transport munitions that adhere to the laws of war. The effectiveness of these efforts is tracked through analytical programs, with units often credited for the destruction of enemy equipment and personnel based on mission success.
